These are necessary to power a gigantic, monolithic piece of technology called the Starseed - which, in turn, is the only hope to close the black hole itself and save Rei’s planet from imminent destruction. You are Rei, a Voidrunner who has ventured inside a black hole called The Ultravoid, and you’re trying to find out what happened to each of your companions and ensure the conduits they set up throughout the different sectors of the void are operational. In Solar Ash you’re faced with platforming challenges, light puzzles, enemy encounters, bosses, and impossible spaces - and you glide your way through it all, accompanied by an appropriately atmospheric, synth-driven sci-fi score. Solar Ash’s vivid colour palette is evocative of developer Heart Machine’s last game, Hyper Light Drifter, but transposed to a 3D open-world, in which momentum is the overriding design principle. Notably, the game is quite short, but still a unique experience and it might have set a new standard on how motion should feel in action games.Rei contemplates the Ultravoid before leaping in. Story wise the game has moved past silent visual storytelling to written dialogues even when they aren't needed that much, The developers have shown in their previous game that they can convey lore through scene composition and visual hints but now they rely maybe too much on dialogue. But there's more to the game and with base mechanics done right this is but a small downside. Sadly, there is no upgrade system of any kind and combat wise the game does not progress at all. It's unbelievable how Hearth Machine Games got their first 3D project so right in terms of level design and motion, considering how geometrically complex environment might be. Sadly I can't say the same about soundtrack which, sadly, is monotonous and pretty much the same throughout the game. Visually, each game area is unique and captivating. Sadly I can't say the same about soundtrack which, sadly, is The game is truly beautiful.
